The first reporting year of the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme is now complete and many organisations have, for the first time, recorded their entire energy use. With a league table published in November 2011, and the need to purchase allowances in the next financial year, organisations are being given more incentives to become energy efficient and more carbon friendly. Affecting most public bodies in Scotland as well as a host of large private sector organisations, meeting the statutory requirements of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is posing challenges for many, as well as flagging up opportunities to cut energy use. In addition, the implications of failing to adhere will provide a financial incentive. Whilst the next steps are still under consideration, including the recently launched UK wide consultation around plans to simplify the scheme, this event will provide a vital opportunity to hear more and discuss recent developments - such as the Performance League Table - as well as the plans for simplification. It will serve as a vital forum to hear more about tried and tested methods to reduce energy use and carbon emissions, identifying how to further develop sustainable energy use strategies and reduce financial penalties or costs for high carbon use. |
